Bazella (Green Peas)
This is a recipe that is both Lebanese and Egyptian. I make it with beef but my sister-in-law is allergic to beef so my mother-in-law makes it with chicken. It is a nice meal eaten with rice. It has cabs, veggies, and protein.
- 1 medium onion cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil (can use a drop of oil with vegetarian ghee. Makes the food richer)
- 750g bag frozen peas
- 156ml Can of tomato paste
- 300g baby carrots cut into small disks
- 4-5 medium size potatoes peeled and cut into cubes
- 500g beef cut into cubes
- beef flavored Bouillon cube (optional)
- salt and pepper to taste
Cook the onion in the oil until they turn a little reddish. Then Add the beef and cook them together on medium heat until the beef is cooked. Then add peas, carrots, bouillon cube, and cover them with water. Add the tomato paste. Let them boil for about 10 minutes before you add the potatoes. The carrots need longer to cook so I add it 10 minutes before the potatoes. Finally, add the potatoes, salt, and pepper. Cook on medium until the potatoes and carrots are cooked. Enjoy!
This meal is eaten with rice. We put rice and on top of it bazella. If I am dieting sometimes I eat it on its own like a soup. In the above picture, I used brown rice since I am trying to switch my family to it. I cooked it the same as I do the basmati rice. Check the basmati rice recipe here.
